inspired–the Tangled wedding short

Tangled Ever After
Have you seen this? It was the perfect feature for today and inspired us and humored us.
What we loved:
  • that the short starts in the same format as the original movie
  • that Maximus got stuck wearing a dress and heels
  • all the stereotypical wedding happenings but also some new ones
  • Rapunzel's wedding dress train that took up a football field – longer than Princess Diana’s that’s for sure
  • I think I need that tiara
  • Oh how my daughters laughed and laughed!
  • The stargazer lily clutch bouquet
Tangled ever after...
Lily wedding bouquet
The bouquet is a bit outdated in the style (cascading clutch), but a perfect symbolism for the short being a Stargazer lily and all. Stargazer Lilies are on of Dan’s favorite flowers and we love how big and brilliant they are.
Hope you enjoyed this as much as we did!

flower feature–wax flower (Chamelaucium)

We are sorry for the two week slack on the blog. Let’s just say that between personal life and business, posting has been put on hold. But we are back! Full force!

Wax flower is one of our favorite filler flowers (used to accent and fill in a design). We love the texture that they bring to a design. The wax flower plants themselves are woody evergreen shrubs ranging from 6 in to 10 ft. high. The leaves are tiny to medium-sized and arranged oppositely on the stems.

flora in fashion–poppy

As I was searching for some pink gowns this week, my four-year-old daughter suddenly exclaimed, “Mom! That dress looks just like the flower we saw on your other page.” The other page she mentioned is our pinterest page. So I just knew I had to feature her flora in fashion find for this Friday’s post. Good eye girly!

flower feature–football mums (Dendranthema X Grandiflorum)

old-school

source: mcadamsfloral.com

Homecoming Mums – Synonymous with Texas High School Football

In the ’50′s, ’60′s and ’70′s, high school girls proudly wore their mums to homecoming.  Long ribbons in the school colors, a football trinket if the girl’s date was on the football team, a megaphone if she was a cheerleader, the school’s name applied to the ribbons with glue and glitter?

Some things have changed since the good old days, but homecoming mums are still synonymous with Texas high school football.  They just look a lot different now.

Alumni first began returning home for Homecoming in 1912. Since then, the celebration continues to entertain both young and old, with traditional events, including tailgate parties, fireworks, lawn displays.

what we’re up to–homecoming

20bout

It’s that time again and we can’t believe it. Usually it consists of Dan’s work slowing down, watching BYU football, and pulling out our fall candles. But this year, we have been running around preparing for the Homecoming Dances in our area.

flora in fashion–oscar de la renta

This fall 2012 campaign is phenomenal.

What we love:

  • The analogous pallet of color is a perfect element that adds depth and layers and modernizes an otherwise matronly color base
  • there is literal floral prints and the alluding idea of floral in the tulle dresses and light ruffles
  • the colors are new and fresh for fall
  • these are great looks that you can thrift pieces and modernize yourself with lace, ruffles, and tailoring
  • the styling of the cat eye makeup gives a perfect retro feel without going to overboard with other things like the hair

flower feature–gladiolus (Gladiolus)

Gladiolus is the genus or generic name for a perennial bulbous flowering plant from the Iridaceae (Iris) family. The name comes from the Latin word Gladius which means sword, and references the sword like shape of the leaves that enclose the flower stems. It is sometimes referred to as Sword Lily, but the most common English names are Gladiolus or Gladiolas. Gladioli is the plural.

The Gladiolus represents faithfulness and honour, strength and moral integrity. It can also mean infatuation, expressing to the receiver that they have “pierced” the sender’s heart with passion. This flower also implies remembrance, which could be one reason why it is used so often in sympathy arrangements.

Striking and colorful with towering stems, this August birth flower and 40th wedding anniversary flower evoke the drama of Roman gladiators.

What we love:

  • Glads create the greatest shapes
  • They are strong line flowers
  • come in ALL colors
  • Perfect for your garden and then you can bring them inside as fresh cut!
  • We think they are a happy flower with good emotion tied to them

We’re planting them in our garden for next year. What about you?

what we’re up to–e’s wedding

Here is a batch of photos that we took as the flowers progress and were completed for e’s wedding last Friday. The lighting was gorgeous in our new kitchen and our girls loved helping prep the flowers and singing. IMG_1520IMG_1522

color board–purple

I think that three quarters of my closet consists of purple. Especially for my fall wardrobe, I love a dark eggplant color. In flowers, we love to use purples to create a formal, regal feel.

Purple is a mysterious color. It is associated with both nobility and spirituality. The opposites of hot red and cool blue combine to create this intriguing color.

What we love:

  • the many shade of purple that you can find in flowers
  • pairing an eggplant purple with accents of gold or silver
  • adding a bright green and orange to the mix
  • how feminine purple is without looking too girly and young

We would recommend you order this for your wife next time as something new, fresh, and romantic.

flower of the month–september aster

Aster is September’s birthflower. Aster means “star” and that refers to the shape of head of this cute and stunning flower.

With their yellow-button centers and colorful blossoms, it’s not surprising that asters have long been considered an enchanted flower. Known as a talisman of love and a symbol of patience, a flower arrangement of asters can work magic with its charm.
