Calendulas – what we thought were some sort of special flower we had never heard of, actually are just disguised with a cool name.
Calendulas are actually Marigolds and are the flower for the month of October.
We know that once you knew it was a Marigold, you knew what kid of potent flower it was. Marigolds are a gardener’s buddy. They keep out deer and help veggies to grow better.

Did you know that Calendula has been used traditionally as both a culinary and medicinal herb. The petals are edible and can be used fresh in salads or dried and used to color cheese or as a replacement for saffron. Huh! What wikipedia will teach you.
What we love:
- the urn arrangement in the middle is enough to make us drool! the rhythm is a perfect imperfection, the negative and positive space is a great balance, and we love orange and green together
- the bottom right photo – how easy is it to create a great and simple arrangement out of things you have at home and in your garden. The white contrasting with the secondary color scheme of purple, green, and orange is a brilliant way to ground the arrangement
- the blue pot with the Calendulas that gives turns the color scheme to complimentary – your containers can make a huge impact
- the straw used as the filler around the blue pot to give the design a country feel
- The vibrant orange that Calendulas come in
